The Story Behind Project Hotspot

Contact Us

Project Hotspot is a Taranaki based pilot project that is using citizen science to support the conservation of threatened and iconic species. The core project team is Emily Roberts (Nga Motu Marine Reserve Society, Taranaki Regional Council, Project Hotspot Lead), Elise Smith (Nga Motu Marine Reserve Society, MAIN Trust NZ) and Shane Orchard (NatureWatch NZ).

The initial idea was developed by members of the Nga Motu Marine Reserve Society in collaboration with other partner organisations to produce the Taranaki project. Thanks to funding from Curious Minds the project got off the ground and was a great success. Stage 2 of Project Hotspot is now underway in response to interest from schools in South Taranaki who were keen get involved!

There is a growing list of other people and partner organizations who have and are contributing to the success of Project Hotspot. Read more about who’s involved here.
